Victorian Aesthetic Movement Silver Vesta Case by Howard James, Birmingham 1881

Description

This wonderful Victorian silver vesta case is dated Birmingham 1881 and bears the marks of Howard James. Aesthetic movement silver vesta cases are very scarce and this an exquisite example. The front engraved with a butterfly fllying over a pond amongst bamboos, all typical motifs of this movement.

The back plain

Sprung cover and striker to base.

Hallmarks:

H.J for Howard James.

Lion passant.

Duty Mark.

Birmingham Assay mark.

Date letter "f" for 1881.

Dimensions:

5cm x 3cm / 1.6 inches x 1.2 inches.

Condition:

Very good.
