Scottish Mahogany Longcase Clock with Barometer. Circa 1800

18th century
Description

Fine and very rare Scottish Georgian figured mahogany cased grandfather or longcase clock fitted with a mercury barometer and thermometer to the door. The 8 day striking movement with engraved sheet silvered dial by James Paterson of Banff (active 1790-1829). Note that the door is the full width of the trunk to accommodate the barometer. The movement has been recently fully overhauled and is in perfect working order as is the barometer. Original lead weights and iron bob pendulum. Another interesting feature is a strike silent mechanism for the strike. The case is in superb condition and is a lovely rich colour with a fine waxed patina. A very rare clock. It is the first one of its type I have had for over 30 years.

Size; 85" high, 18" wide at hood, 9.5" deep at hood.

Approx. delivery cost in mainland U.K. £75
