Description

An attractive and unusual writing slope with painted decoration in the style of a Tunbridge Ware box. The exterior is of beautifully grained Rosewood and there is a Satinwood drawer in a secret compartment underneath the inkstand and pen tray

The central scene on the front of the slope is rubbed, showing that the box was much used, and the interior also shows signs that this was someone's much loved, and used, writing slope. It appears to be all original with the possibility of one missing Satinwood drawer which would have been a match for the one still there.

The box measures, when closed, 38 cm wide x 21 cm high x 33 cm deep and dates from circa 1840.
