Gents Omega bumper automatic wrist watch, c1949.

The watch has a bumper automatic movement, calibre 351, which is working nicely. This calibre was in production from 1949 until 1952. This particular movement is fully signed and the serial number 11,874,924 dates it back to around 1949.

Early automatic watches such as this one relied on the rotor ‘bumping’ backwards and forwards between two springs to maintain the power within the movement. Later automatic watches have the fully rotational rotor.

The watch measures 32.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is stainless steel and it is in good condition, just a couple of marks to the screw-on case back. The inside of the case back has the triangular Omega logo together with the case reference 2582-3C which is correct for the calibre 351 movement.

The winding crown appears to be the original although the raised logo has worn off... if it is not the original crown then it is certainly of the correct style and period.

The lens is in good condition.

The signed dial has been professionally re-finished to a high standard. Original dauphine shaped hands.

A new leather strap has been fitted. The buckle has the Omega logo.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
