In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
It has its original internal candle box and original working lock and key which holds a special trick - the lock has an alarmed bell which rings when the key is turned which would have prevented anybody stealing your belongings on board the ship!
It is in very good condition for its age and has a nice aged and worn patina but it strong and sturdy. There are signs of age and use, some small knocks and surface marks and some small repairs here and there but noting detrimental. The hinges have been repaired at some point but are strong and sturdy now. The chest is generally clean and tidy inside and it displays beautifully.
