Fine Quality Mid 19th Century Walnut Open Armchair

Description

A very fine quality mid 19th Century walnut open armchair.

English Circa 1860.

Of early Georgian design having a pierced back and solid shaped splat popularised by the likes of Giles Grendy in the George II era whilst unusually having a slightly early style cabriole leg termination on a hoof foot more reminiscent of the Queen Anne period.

The back being veneered with choice cut thick walnut veneers whist the shaped shepherds crook arms of solid walnut with carved detail to knuckles. Retaining its original needlepoint drop in squab seat enclosed by a moulded rail with raised carvings above each cabriole front legs terminating on a hoof foot.

Of excellent colour and design this is one of best quality chairs of it’s age, constructed in an 18th century manner with good quality timber used.
