Antique Waltham pocket watch, Haymarket, Sydney.

The watch has a Waltham model 1883 stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The beautifully patterned movement is fully signed and the serial number dates it back to around 1900.

The watch measures 58mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is nickel and it is a one piece case with a screw fitting bezel. This was an early attempt at making a waterproof watch case although as with any vintage watch, it should be kept away from water and moisture.

The case is in good condition, just minor marks but nothing serious at all.

The watch glass is in good condition.

The dial is signed with the name of the original retailer of the watch, T M Alock & Son, Haymarket, Sydney.

From the Sydney Morning Herald, December 1900... established many years in the Haymarket, the good firm of Messrs T M Alcock and Son are perhaps best noted for their clocks, watches and chronographs, but they stock largely in jewellery, and their display in artistic things, diamonds, pearls, turquoise, and other gems is a very complete and handsome one.

The dial is in good condition, just a short hairline underneath the subsidiary seconds dial. Blued steel hands.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
