Gents silver wrist watch, 1925.

The watch has a Swiss hand-winding movement, identified as a Fontainemelon, which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 33mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for London (import mark), 1925 with an importer's mark for George Stockwell.

From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items, which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail.

The case is in good condition, just a couple of “pin prick” dings to the back but nothing serious at all. We would usually expect a watch from this era to have fixed wire lugs but over the years, these have been replaced with sturdier silver lugs. This work has been carried out in a professional manner and looks to have been done many years ago, and makes for an altogether more robust fitting for the strap.

The lens is in good condition.

The dial is in lovely condition and has a red number 12, blued steel hands, subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
