Large Arts & Crafts Oak Bureau Bookcase C.1910.

1900 - 1920
Description

Large Edwardian Arts & Crafts style bureau bookcase c.1910. Very nearly five feet wide, in two pieces with a sliding door glazed bookcase top fitted with three adjustable shelves (10" depth) over a writing bureau base. Original leaded glazing to the doors with beautiful Art Nouveau leaf design. Fall front bureau opening to reveal a good sized writing surface with original faux leather skiver and fitted interior of pigeon holes, three small stationery drawers and a small cupboard. Over five large drawers, a cupboard on the left with an adjustable shaped vertical divider and, very unusually, a waste paper bin on the right with loose metal hopper behind a matching door front hinged at the bottom. Retaining the original Arts & Crafts style brass handles with large hoop grips, the pointed tips pierced with a delightful heart shaped detail. Superior quality cabinet making with solid oak sides, drawer linings and backboards. Maker’s badge for Ralph Johnson of Warrington. Split to the skiver along the fold, otherwise excellent condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Keys supplied.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
