Description

Just arrived, this charming prayer-rug wasmade by Baluch tribes in Khorassan, north-eastern Persia circa 1870-1880. I love the archaic drawing throughout the camel-hair field - possibly made by a young weaver who might have been experimenting with the field design. Note how she adopted darker colours a short distance up from the base of the camel field as she started knotting. This is a very unusual and rare little Baluch in very good overall condition, although sadly, the kilim skirts have worn away over the course of 150 years!
