Description
-Welcome to Mersham Manor Antiques- A versatile and very attractive imposing profusely carved standing bureau over a large storage cupboard. Constructed in the Victorian era from oak component parts dating from the 17th century. The top shelved super-structure is late Victorian. We acquired this interesting piece originally from a restaurant in a period building in Canterbury Kent, where it made a very useful item, as it has alot of storage space, plus can be used as a standing desk with the bureau section great for storing paper work etc. The door handle to the cupboard is particularly lovely as it is a completely wooden mechanism, which turns to open with a large wooden ring handle. Please study the pictures which show all the very interesting beautifully carved component parts to the cabinet. The two posts which flank the cupboard door where originally 17th century bed-posts, and are heavy and solid. The wood shelving internally has a wonderful patination which is an indication of it`s great age. The bureau section has two solid oak drawers with turned bun-handles flanking central pigeon holes, with compartments to the front, which is great for stationary storage. The cupboard has a vast amount of storage space having shaped shelves to each side flanking tall compartments which could be great for bottles or files. The shelved top can be removed for ease of moving. In excellent antique condition. Very solid sturdy and strong. Rich dark oak in colour. The dimensions are taken at highest, widest, deepest points Height-175cm. Width-145.5cm. Depth-69cm. Height of lowest part of the bureau front-103.5cm. VIEWING.
