Georgian Mahogany Breakfront Bookcase

18th century
Description

Georgian mahogany breakfront bookcase

This Georgian mahogany breakfront bookcase was made in the late Georgian period.

These bookcases are superb items as they store so many books from your library.

Imagine how impressive this will look in your home as it is such a wonderful item on the eye.

It was made for an important home of the period where the cost was secondary to the quality and workmanship.

The glazed top section consists of 4 doors, a pair in the middle breakfront section and a single door to each end all with adjustable shelves in the interior.

The base conforms in the same manner but with blind panels.

The history of this bookcase is interesting as it was purchased by an American collector from the auction of an important house just after the Second World War and shipped to Philadelphia USA.( After the war many of Britain’s fine large homes were sold and the contents were sold to buyers all around the world, mostly the USA as the owners had emigrated or been killed in the conflict.) In recent years it was returned to the UK, where we were invited to purchase it, we were of course delighted to do so and now are pleased to offer it for sale.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
