Description
An oil on canvas fragment with severe deterioration later mounted on board. It depicts Samuel under instruction from Eli and is after a similar painting by John Singleton Copley (Anglo American born in Boston) painted originally in 1780. The canvas is of considerable age and the damage to it obviously prompted the application to board. Its age is unknown but it is certainly 19thC or before.Today a painting in this condition is considered highly decorative and this one would look fabulous in a suitably large property. The frame is of age and is in reasonable condition with much original gilt. It is unsigned and has had some overpainting in places (see photos). It is unsigned with no date. 107 cm wide 87 cm high 5 cm deep Please telephone or email for further photos or information which will be promptly provided. All items shipped will be expertly packed to avoid damage during transit. Internal Ref: 23028
