Description

This fabulous rug was made in the Moghan area of the Kazak Mountains, south-west Caucasus circa 1870 and is in excellent overall pile with no repairs. It has just been professionally washed which has beautifully enhanced the glossy wool and brought out the magnificent vegetable colours.

The overall design of two vertical rows of eight Moghan 'guls' or tribal crests contain an '8-pointed star' - a symbol of spirituality and protection. The main ivory border containing continuous flower-heads, is a popular design used in the Kazak Mountain region. Just a powerful and dynamic rug.
