A Fine William IV Walnut Bracket Clock By Payne & Co

A fine William IV bracket clock in a burr walnut case by (William) Payne & Co of 163 New Bond Street, London, the waisted case with a shaped arched top over a circular cast gilt bronze bezel with lightly convex glass, with a silvered dial having Roman numerals and black steel hands with club or heart shaped ends and engraved with the maker’s name, on a serpentine plinth base raised on cast gilt bronze feet. To the back a shaped glazed door the eight day two train fusée movement striking the hours and half hours on a coiled gong, the backplate similarly engraved. Pendulum and crank winding key and keys to front and back doors. English circa 1835.
 
Condition: Excellent, the gilding original, the case has a minor crack to each side, and the clock has been fully serviced and is in full working condition.
 
The maker: William Payne was first recorded at 62 South Molton Street in 1816, and moved to 163 New Bond Street by 1825. The company remained there until the 20th century.
