George III Mahogany Small Chest

18th century
Description

George III mahogany caddy top chest

Here we are pleased to offer you this George III mahogany caddy top chest.

Made circa 1790 this chest is a wonderful warm mahogany colour, also a rare small size

These caddy top chests are rare, they get the name from not having the usual applied protruding moulding running around the edge but have just the delicate moulding running at the front and sides, such as you would see on tea-caddies of the period.

This George III mahogany chest also has the desirable feature of a brushing slide that pulls out for use as a desk or to use to work at. Originally the slides were for the valet to brush a gentleman’s trousers before use.

Below the top the chest is fitted 4 full width graduated drawers, with the period brass swing handle.

The chest stands on the original bracket feet.

76cms wide 30ins

46cms deep 18ins

83cms high 32 1/2ins

All measurements are approximate

This George III mahogany caddy top chest is a finite item that is a very green product which has not affected the environment we live in.
