Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Kangxi blue and white porcelain was produced during the reign of the Kangxi Emperor (16611722) of the Qing Dynasty. It is characterised by refined white kaolin porcelain clay and vivid sapphire-blue underglaze cobalt decoration depicting symbolic scenes, floral patterns, or fauna.

These vessels were crafted using kaolin clay fired at high kiln temperatures, with cobalt oxide pigment hand-applied onto the unfired body prior to applying a transparent glaze. The technique demanded accurate brushwork as cobalt pigment absorbs rapidly into raw porcelain clay.

Authentic Kangxi pieces typically exhibit luminous sapphire-blue tones, smooth glazes, and precisely finished foot rims exposing fine white clay. Analysts also inspect period-appropriate motif execution, such as cranes or auspicious clouds, painted with deliberate variations in tonal depth.

Blue and white porcelain functions well as an accent piece placed on dark timber shelving, open bookcases, or fireplace mantels. Displaying individual vessels alongside books or within minimalist settings provides subtle texture and historical contrast.

Clean antique porcelain with soft microfibre cloths dampened with warm water and a gentle, neutral soap, avoiding abrasive sponges or strong chemicals. Ensure the vessel is placed on stable, flat surfaces away from high-traffic zones to prevent accidental damage.
