Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1900s.
The handle is most unusual and highly decorative with three repousse panels to both back and front.

The top is mounted with a solid sterling silver Equestrian casting of a figure riding a horse.
The handle is made from sterling silver (probably originally from Holland or Germany) with a foreign import mark for London 1901 together with the makers mark SBL for Samuel Boyce Landeck; a nice Edwardian example.

The rim around the glass is made from solid brass and would originally have been covered with silverplate which is still intact a few places with the brass showing through, the underside of the frame is marked "Germany", which is where the best magnifiers were and still are made. The glass is totally original with only a few minor surface scratches.
A star attraction to any desk-top and in excellent condition. Measuring 10" in length, with a glass diameter measuring 4".
