Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
18th century mahogany LONGCASE CLOCK in full working
order.
The CASE is typical of the finest cabinetmaking to be found
in London during the second and third quarters of the 18th

century with its ‘pagoda’ pediment to the hood; brass-inlaid
columns flanking the hood door; and a long arch-top trunk
door veneered in superb “flame” mahogany. This is flanked
by quartered columns, also inlaid with brass, above unusual
cross-banded plinths.

The 8-day MOVEMENT strikes the hours on a bell and retains its original brass pendulum
and pair of brass-cased weights whilst the good dial features
engraved and silvered chapter-rings; “Strike/Silent” control

in the arch; subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture above
“VI”. It is signed by the maker to the engraved plate, which
is applied to the matted centre of the dial. A stunning and
superb quality 18th century London Longcase clock!
