1920s Hebdomas Pocket Watch from Limit of Switzerland

1920s Hebdomas pocket watch from Limit of Switzerland in super condition.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The barrel is beautifully detailed and includes details of medals won at trade exhibitions.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the loop. The case is chrome plated and it is in beautiful condition, as is the acrylic lens.

The dial is signed with the Hebdomas name and also Limit of Switzerland and has an exposed balance and regulator.

In August 1884 Alfred Hirst established Hirst Brothers as a company in Union Street, Oldham, Great Britain. The name Limit was registered by Hirst Brothers in 1912. Movements were shipped from the Waldenburg factory in Switzerland to the Oldham headquarters for assembly into British made Dennison cases, and signed with the Limit name.

With the outbreak of war in 1914 and in line with the rest of the country, Hirst Brothers switched from normal production to the manufacture of optical instruments.

After the war, production started again and the company continued to expand. By the beginning of the 1920s, the company employed over 500 people. At this stage the product range was varied and included watches, clocks, jewellery, tools and materials, as well as optical goods.

The watch we have here would have been purchased from Hebdomas to be sold under the Limit name.

The watch comes in a vintage presentation box.
