Description

Remarkable mid 19th.c. metamorphic adjustable side table and reading or music stand c.1860. Presents as a very smart pedestal side table to stand flat against the wall or on the back of a sofa. However, the top incorporates a pair of adjustable slopes to one end (held closed with the original brass button latches) which lift to make stands for books or sheet music with removable galleries to the bottom edge (stored beneath when not in use). The top also slides horizontally to one side to fit easily over a chair or bed, and is height adjustable to 42" on a brass mechanism within the column. On a shaped plinth with turned bun feet. Excellent original condition with some old marks to the top. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
