In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
Inside, the box is fitted with a good quality dark leather writing surface with a gold tooled edge. It comes with a glass inkwell and a pen tray. Both top and bottom sections of the leather surface lift up to reveal extra storage space below.
The box is in good condition for its age with a beautiful patina and displays very nicely.
There are some general signs of age and use, some knocks and light scuffs, a small old chip and a few old shrinkage splits on the outside of the box but nothing untoward or detrimental. Overall the box displays very well.
