In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
It is horse-hair stuffed, quite possibly the original. The webbing and bottom hessian covering has been recently replaced giving a good firm seat.
It is in good condition for its age. The leather is original and has developed a lovely worn and aged patina. It is structurally sound with minimal play in the frame and the springs are good. Thre are no major damages in the leather but there is a small old repaired split on the back of the scroll top and another small old repair near the arm on the seat. The back and sides are all in good order with no rips or tears, just some slight marks on the back where the springs push against it. There are signs of historic woodworm in the legs and front of the arms which has all been treated as a precaution and has not affected the chair structurally or aesthetically. There are what look like some old scratches near the back of the arms which have had a hardener or some sort of treatment put on them which has turned the leather slightly off colour where it has been applied. All of these areas have been photographed and given its age are not untoward or detrimental.
The chair has been cleaned and treated with a leather conditioner. It displays beautifully and is ready for use.
The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions please ask. It is approximately 34" (86cm) high and the arms are 33" (84cm) wide across. The chair is approximately 37" (94cm) deep.
