Rare Victorian Silver Double Sovereign & Half Sovereign Case

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

A superb unusual and rare solid silver Sovereign Case in the shape of a heart (if held a certain way you may make your own determination as to the shape)! The case is a lovely plain polished silver with no engravings or embossing. When opened the three compartments for 2 sovereigns and 1 half sovereign are revealed to hold the sovereigns (all of which work faultlessly and are spring loaded).

The underside of the lid bear clear hallmarks for the Birmingham Assay office with a date mark for 1900 along with the Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver and maker''s marks for the silversmith: Lucas & Co. Partial marks are also visible on each of the sovereign compartments.
