Silver Antiques Online has dated this piece to the Victorian era.

Sugar scuttles, named for their design in the shape of a coal scuttle, were Victorian inventions with the first examples appearing in the 1850s. They went out of vogue after the Second World War and the vast majority made were silver plated, so sterling silver examples like this one are very rare and highly collectable.

In excellent condition with little or no signs of use or wear, this fabulous Sugar Scuttle is also free from any added engravings, monograms or initials.
