Antique Longcase Clock

18th century
Description

A small Georgian 'cottage' longcase clock with a flat moulded hood pediment. A well proportioned oak case with fretwork to the hood pediment. Gilded hood front and rear column capitals. A pretty painted dial with floral corners, date and seconds indicators. A 30 hour duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

George Hewitt of Marlborough is recorded in Youngs' 'Wiltshire Clock and Watchmakers' book as working from 1733-1807. He is noted as a talented maker with illustrations of his work.
