Fine Bronze Sculpture: "Joan of Arc"

Description

A well-known, impressive and beautifully modelled BRONZE SCULPTURE of Joan of Arc.

Wearing a simple "peasant's" dress and barefoot, she is modelled standing demurely with her hands clasped before her, a fallen standard lying by her feet. Signed to the integral bronze base: E. Laurent. Good rich patina. 17.5ins (44.5cms) high including the base.

***Born in Gray, France in 1832, Eugène LAURENT exhibited many times in the Paris Salon between 1861-1893. He was highly regarded for his elegant studies of various classical figures including his Joan of Arc which is beautifully observed and modelled. He died in 1898.
