A very original and very early Austrian Bracket - Table clock circa 1750 by an unknown maker.
The ebony case with age related knocks and dents as expected from a 270 year old clock is in a most lovely untouched condition. I have purposely left the case in this condition instead of fully restoring it as it has taken a very long time to look like this and it would not take long to remove it!
The Grand Sonnerie striking movement with a crownwheel ( verge) escapement is of a 50 hour duration which is typical of this type of clock. The movement has been fully overhauled by me personally and comes with a full three years guarantee. These clocks are not to be confused with the late 19th century machine made, mass produced clocks. This clock is completely hand made by a master clockmaker of his time and would have been the product of a small workshop within the Austrian region.
The Repousse dial is exquisite and is again, totally handmade, the makers hammer marks are still present and is of a good quality. I have very carefully cleaned the dial taking care not to use any abrasive materials so that the original finish is conserved.
These types of early verge bracket clocks are rare and make a good addition to a collection or to a home that appreciates a bit of early continental charm.
