Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Boudoir clocks are small, decorative timepieces designed primarily for bedrooms, dressing tables, or writing desks during the late 19th century. They frequently feature elaborate ornamentation, such as Rococo revival scrolls or gilt finishes, intended to complement intimate interior spaces.

These clocks typically feature cast brass or spelter frames coated in gilded lacquer or electroplated gold, often referred to as ormolu. Decorative inserts frequently utilised tortoiseshell, faux-tortoiseshell celluloid, enamel, or polished glass over mechanical clockwork mechanisms.

Authentic period pieces display characteristic heavy casting with hand-chased detailing on scrollwork and acanthus leaf motifs. Look for era-appropriate Roman numerals, mechanical movement winding apertures, and stamped or printed publisher inscriptions from the late 19th century.

Place the clock as a focal accent on a mantelpiece, stacked atop books on a shelf, or displayed on a bedside console. Pairing gilded metalwork with dark wood surfaces or contemporary minimalist backdrops creates visual contrast.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth or a delicate brush to clear intricate crevices. Avoid chemical metal polishes or liquid cleaners, as moisture can remove original gilded finishes and damage internal clockworks.
