Antique Longcase Clock

19th century
Description

A Welsh mahogany and rosewood crossbanded longcase clock. An arched hood pediment surmounted by 3 brass finials. Twist hood and trunk side columns. An attractive arched painted dial with a steam ship and country scenes to the corners. Date and seconds indicators. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

The case style is typical from the South Wales area at this period. There are a few Hopkins listed in Peates' 'Clock and Watchmakers of Wales' book working at this period in the area.
