In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
Inside, the box is fitted with a good quality dark leather writing surface with a gold tooled edge. It comes with its original glass inkwell and a pen tray. Both top and bottom sections of the leather surface lift up to reveal extra storage space below.
The box is in very good condition for its age with a beautiful patina and displays very nicely. The leather writing surface is in good condition with no major holes or tears although it is worn along the crease. There are some general signs of age and use, some knocks and light scuffs and a few small old chips on the outside of the box but nothing detrimental. Overall the box displays very well.
