Silver Snakeskin Leather Spirit Hip Flask with Cup. James Dixon 1929

Description

This stunning large spirit hip flask which has a detachable solid silver cup and hinged flip / bayonet top is made by renowned silversmith James Dixon & Sons in the 1920's.

The outer of the top half is covered in stylish light and dark brown coloured snakeskin leather, there is a sight level on both sides and the flask is a large, making it a wonderful usable item.

The bayonet top seals well and does not leak. The detachable cup has a gilt interior and is in beautifully clean condition.

The flask has a slightly curved body so sits lovely in a pocket. A lovely clean and usable item that would make a wonderful gift.

Height: 16 cms / 6 1/4" approx.

Width: 10 cms / 4" approx.

Depth: 3 cms / 1 1/4" approx.

Total weight: 466 grams.

Date: 1929.

Maker: James Dixon. Birmingham.

Hallmarks: Fully hallmarked for silver, Crown for Sheffield, makers mark J.D & Sons for James Dixon and Sons. Date letter m for 1929. Hallmarked to the cup, top and collar.

Marked to the base: 3/8 pt (Holds 3/8 of a pint).

Condition: In excellent condition with only very light signs of use in keeping with age. A very clean and tidy flask. The hinged lid closes perfectly with no leaks. The cup slides on and off of the flask well and stays firmly in place. The snakeskin leather is in excellent condition. The silver and glass is in excellent condition with no splits, dents, chips or damage. The makers mark on the cup is slightly rubbed but can clearly be read. On very close inspection there is a few minute dings to cup edges. No monogram.
