Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Kidney-shaped writing tables emerged in late eighteenth-century France and gained widespread popularity in Britain during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. The concave front contour was ergonomically designed to allow writers to sit closer to the workspace and reach all areas of the desktop without stretching.

These pieces were typically constructed using a solid timber frame layered with dense rosewood or mahogany veneers. Decorative marquetry often incorporated contrasting hardwoods such as satinwood, boxwood, and ebony, complemented by gold-tooled leather writing surfaces and cast brass handles.

Authentic period examples display hand-cut dovetail joints inside the drawers, original brass castors, and fine hand-cut marquetry rather than modern stamped patterns. The underside of the frame will typically show signs of natural timber aging, oxidation, and historical hand-tool marks.

Position the desk float-style in an open-plan room or within a dedicated study alcove to showcase its curved silhouette from all angles. Pair it with a neutral modern desk chair and minimalist brass desk lighting to balance historical craftsmanship with clean modern aesthetics.

Dust wood surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually to protect the veneer from drying out. Clean the leather insert using a specialized leather conditioner and keep the desk away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent wood warping or leather fading.
