Set of 8 William IV Mahogany Dining Chair

Description

This Set of 8 William IV mahogany dining chairs were made circa 1820.

This fine set of chairs were made in a high-end workshop, where the chairmaker chose high grade mahogany before starting the task of making these chairs.

The joined turned and block cross stretcher is a feature for chairs made in Scotland.

Scottish furniture typically was made with superb timber and fine quality carving.

This set of 8 dining chairs consists of a pair of carver armchairs and a set of 6 matching side chairs.

The top rails with scalloped top edge, and a roundel and foliate carving to each end.

The back splat of a very rare and unusual design with the domino centre.

The front turned legs joined to the back legs by a block and turned cross stretcher.

The chairs have drop in seats upholstered in an old green material.
