For sale is a fine quality English 19th Century Victorian Amboyna Pedestal Desk. The desk top, having a superstructure with two cupboards with brass gallery tops, each panelled with a bevelled mirror, opening to reveal an interior fitted with four inlaid drawers, each with decorative brass mouldings and superb brass handles. The centre of the super structure has a further four inlaid drawers, again with brass mouldings and ornate brass handles in the French taste. Above this, a decorative motif of two cherubs. Below this, the desk top has a brass beaded edge as well as a top quality hand dyed green leather hide, decorated with blind and gold tooling, with three more inlaid drawers below to match those above. The top fits onto two pedestals, each with three graduated drawers above an inlaid plinth base. All of the drawers have matching brass mouldings, inlay, brass handles and are all mahogany lined. Each side of the desk is decorated with black and white line inlay which matches the design that has been carried throughout the rest of the article. This piece has been fully restored and re-polished by hand using only traditional methods and is a remarkable piece and is a fine example of top quality 19th century craftsmanship.
