Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1850s.
Constructed of finely-figured timber, this is a faithful copy of a full-size early Victorian sideboard, complete with central drawer and cupboards to both sides, fitted with shelves to the left side and a cellarette drawer (complete with lead lined divisions) to the other. Superb! 13.35ins (34cms) wide.
Often (and incorrectly) referred to as "Apprentice Pieces" these beautifully made miniature furniture pieces were actually journeyman's (or salesman's) samples and were used to show prospective customers (usually shops) the design and quality of the full-size piece.
