Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.

The leather is gold embossed with the Chemist's signature " Thompson & Capper / Liverpool / Birkenhead & Manchester / Homeopathic Chemists.
Thompson & Capper still exist to this day as pill manufactures. Thompson & Capper was formed by Thomas Thompson in 1798 and S. J. Capper joined as a partner in 1843. Originally a homeopathic chemist in Liverpool, the company grew to include a manufacturing facility as well as several retail outlets in the UK.

The interior is missing contents and the a second thin wooden lid beneath the one shown. The drawer too is empty and a lid missing I believe from the central compartment, all mentioned for accuracy.
The box remains in excellent condition with a blemish to top from a knot. Measures 8 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 5 1/2" tall.
