Antique French Ormolu Neoclassical Drum Head Clock.

19th century
Description

Antique French Ormolu Neoclassical Drum Head Clock.

~ French - Circa 1880 ~

~~ Excellent condition ~~

A very decorative drum head neoclassical clock. It is beautifully made of ormolu (gilded brass/bronze) and finely finished. The movement is mounted in a drum on top of a reeded column. Scroll supports are to the sides and a laurel swag is draped below the dial. Above the dial is a delicate bow and an urn with pineapple finial.

The dial is also ormolu and is mounted with 12 individual enamel cartouche letters. Lettering is the more desirable blue on white. A further cartouche just below the 12 o'clock is signed for the retailer Lambert-Levy. The rear door is glazed to allow the movement to be seen.

The French movement is of high quality and has the clockmakers mark H&F Paris on the backplate. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent with clean and bright finish. There is some wear to the original gilding. The dial is also very good with no chips or scratches.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

Dimensions of clock:

inches Height 16 1/2", Width 11 1/4", Depth 5 1/2"

centimetres Height 42 cm, Width 28.5 cm, Depth 14 cm

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
