Description

A very good Continental burr walnut abattant / escritoire / writing cabinet. The moulded edged top having canted corners with scrolled corbels above the reeded styles. The top drawer having applied mouldings and turned wooden escutcheon. The burr walnut book matched quarter veneered fall opens to reveal a very well fitted interior consisting of 13 beautiful amboyna drawers with turned pulls. The bottom centre drawer conceals a false drawer lining that when removed reveals 3 secret drawers one of which concealed the original invoice (see photo) which is dated 1907. The fall has a replaced burgundy tooled leather writing surface. The lock is stamped by the maker Wilhelm Haff of Germany but this wonderful writing cabinet was retailed in Winterthur, Switzerland. The lower section has 3 graduated drawers with turned escutcheons and all working locks with keys and the whole raised on a shaped plinth base. Condition - very good & original.
