Description

An exceptional 18th century verge BRACKET CLOCK, by John Pritchard, London in remarkably good original condition.

The ebonised case with its upper carrying handle, features cast ormolu caryatids to the canted corners, and a gilded slip frame to the front door. The 8-day movement retains its original verge escapement with a finely engraved backplate (numbered 518), striking hours on a bell & repeating the hours at will. The fine dial with ornate spandrels, has "Strike/Silent" to the arch and the date above "VI", whilst the centre is finely engraved with a scene and the signature of the maker. 19ins high.
