Antique Waltham pocket watch with history.

The watch has a key-wound movement which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and the serial number 6580152 dates it back to around 1873. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has a mild indentation and light surface scratching, nothing serious.

The watch measures 57mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and is hallmarked for Birmingham 1876 with a case maker's mark of AB for Alfred Bedford, Manager of Waltham UK. The case is in a very acceptable condition for a piece of its age, gentle unevenness to the back and the majority of the engine turned detail has worn off just from 140 years of wear.

The inside of the case back has a previous owner's details, Fred Leaver, 21 Every St, Nelson. According to ancestry records, Fred Leaver was born in 1875 (so the watch was possibly a christening present) and he went on to become a cotton weaver. The house in Every Street, Nelson is in Lancashire and is still standing today.

The watch glass is in lovely condition.

The signed dial is in very nice condition and the fleur de lys hands are a charming feature.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
