Also etched on the blade is "Donald A Light F.G.A."
I received the following from a knowledgeable Masonic historian:
"I believe "FGA" refers to "Fraternal Grand Almoner", a high-governing Masonic rank, one that accords with the inherent symbolism attaching to the sword cane as an item of period defence. The Almoner is the Lodge welfare officer. He maintains contact with the widows of members and with those who are ill or indisposed. Trained to assist those who are in financial need, he has knowledge of the variety of resources that exist in time of individual need. The sword is symbolic of defending the Almoner's purse from all attack. I suspect the sword cane was presented on the identified holder's retirement from Office."
The sword stick is in excellent original condition.
