A very rare example of a walnut geometric moulded chest of drawers, a style almost always seen in oak, so an interesting and unusual find. Made towards the end of the Charles II period, probably around 1680. It Has Four pine lined drawers with walnut veneered pine drawer fronts, decorated with oak mouldings. The use of pine for the fronts proves that this was not an oak chest veneered at a later date. The sides are paneled oak with through legs. Oak drawer dividers. The front legs with turned feet added to the through legs, possibly at a later date. The top is quarter veneered with box and ebony edge stringing. Inevitably the handles and escutcheons are later but are of good quality and the correct style for this chest, with split pin fixings to the pear drops. This is probably one of the very first veneered chests of drawers to be made in this country and is a really fine quality piece.
