Unrestored 18th.c. Conwy Valley Welsh Dresser C.1760.

18th century
Description

Purchased locally and belonging originally to a farm just a few miles from our warehouse, we present as found this unrestored Conwy valley Welsh dresser c.1760.

A superb example of the form, useful small size, with wonderful early timbers and original colour. Note the deep belly shaped sides and arched detail to the canopy on the rack. Three shelves, the top shelf pierced with slots for displaying spoons, original cornice (missing the right hand return) and oak backboards. Two door cupboard base with three drawers featuring unusual narrower middle knife drawer and fixed centre panel. Simple thumb moulded detail to the edges of the top and the drawer fronts. Arched, raised and fielded panels across the front. Square raised and fielded panels on the sides. Original oak panelled back and oak floor boards.

Presented unrestored, with some obvious damage and missing the drawer and door handles (though we believe the escutcheons on the two larger drawers are original). One later replacement drawer bottom, otherwise original through.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like to discuss restoration options.

Dimensions: width 64", depth 21", height 81".

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
