Antique Waltham pocket watch, 1898.

The watch has a nicely patterned stem-winding movement, grade 22, which is working nicely. This grade of movement was made from 1891 to 1900, it is fully signed and the serial number 8,779,264 dates it back to 1898.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is the gold filled Fortune model from the American Watch Case Company who were actually based in Toronto. This is a good quality case that was originally guaranteed to wear 20 years, and it has a screw-on case back, a good sign of quality. The case is nicely decorated all over. There is some rubbing to the pattern as you would expect in such an early piece, and some unevenness to the back. The inside of the case back has a scratched name and address of a previous owner from County Down.

The original glass lens has been replaced with a more durable acrylic lens at some stage in its life.

The signed dial has blued steel hands, a slightly sunken dial and an outer minute track.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
