A Georgian Twin Fusee Bracket Clock by Skinner, Exeter

Description

A good quality Georgian English twin fusee bracket/table clock. A mahogany case surmounted by brass finials. Side brass handles and sound fretwork panels. Fishscale front brass panels and standing on bracket feet. A convex glass and cast bezel to the opening front door. A convex painted dial signed 'John Skinner, Exeter' with blued steel hands. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell with engraved backplate. Circa 1810.

John Skinner of Exeter is recorded in Ponsfords 'Devon Clocks and Clockmakers' book as working from 1763 and died in 1818. His son continued the family business in the High Street.
