A wonderful, solid silver Menu/Card Holder made by the renowned silversmith Sampson Mordan, in the form of an Owl. The owl has fabulous glass eyes and stands on a circular base with the lip for holding a menu or card at the back. A small sculpture in its own right!
The very clear hallmarks are visible to the circular base for the Chester Assay Office with date mark for 1904 and Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver. The maker''s mark is also clear for Sampson Mordan & Co.
