An elegant pair of George III style mahogany card tables by Maples & Co and dating to circa 1900. These unusual tables are designed after the Neoclassical style of Robert Adam and Thomas Chippendale as found in Paxton House in Scotland. The solid mahogany hinged D-shaped tops with a rope-twist edge above a stop fluted frieze with floral paterae and bead and reel moulding. With well carved rams heads and bell flower trails to each tapering leg and terminating in carved acanthus leaf and hairy cloven hoof feet. The back legs swing open to support the hinged top flap and form a circular games table with 3ft diameter top. One table with label for ‘Maple & Co, By Royal Appointment, London, Paris, Buenos Aires’.In a dark shade of mahogany one table has slightly faded and has had the baize replaced, the other with original baize which is wearing through on the crease (we can arrange to have both these replaced if preferred).
