Antique silver half hunter pocket watch and chain.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed Hall & Co, 56 King Street, Manchester, and it is all protected by an inner hinged cover.

Hall & Co was originally established in 1830, then known as Hatfield & Hall. In 1860 the company was re-organised and became John Hall & Co. By 1926, the company was listed as being gem merchants, silversmiths and watch makers.

The watch measures 47mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the covers for London 1886. The front cover is unusual with a gold chapter ring with enamelled filled Roman numerals. The back of the watch has a monogram, although a little rubbed so difficult to make out the letters.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside there is an acrylic lens which is in good condition.

The dial is in very nice condition and has blued steel hands (including the half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed).

The watch comes with a single chain 27cm long including the T-bar and the clasp. Each of the links has the lion passant mark.

The watch and chain will be sent in a new presentation box.
