Ww2 Japanese Issued Imperial Navy & Imperial Army, Pair Of Watches By Seikosha, Circa 1942

Sold by: Oliver Sargent Antiques

For sale a very rare WW2 Japanese issued Imperial Navy & Imperial Army, pair of watches by Seikosha, circa 1942. WW2 Japanese military issue watches are seldom encountered. This pair on offer are both double cased, and both are in good working order keeping time. Each is fully signed throughout, and both are unrestored. It is very rare to find these watches in good working order because of the low-grade movements used by Seikosha. The naval version is also supplied with what looks to be its original strap and plated insignia. I have always taken the view that these low-grade watches were given out because the service personnel were not expected to return alive, this being part of the Japanese culture. Examples can be seen on page 779, British Military Timepieces by Konrad Knirim.
